This two-hour foundational workshop is designed to give you a clear, practical understanding of artificial intelligence and its impact on today’s workplaces. You’ll learn what AI is, how it works, and where it’s being used, while exploring both the opportunities it brings and the challenges it poses. In this interactive workshop, you’ll get a clear, practical introduction to artificial intelligence and its growing impact on the workplace, and:

  • Develop a foundational understanding of how machine learning, large language models, and Generative AI work through easily accessible concepts and real-world examples.
  • Discover how AI is transforming work—from automating repetitive tasks to enhancing decision-making.
  • Understand ethical, social, and labour-related implications, including workforce impacts, employee rights, and transparency in AI adoption.
  • Learn best practices for engaging with AI tools responsibly and effectively.
  • Explore practical scenarios relevant to your role, team, and organization.

Duration: 2 hours
Format: Virtual (Zoom), interactive, discussion-based, hands-on

Audience: Human Resources and Labour Relations Professionals, as well as excluded People Leaders from the Post-Secondary sector who want a practical introduction to AI and its workplace implications.

Facilitator(s): 

Ricardo R. Trujeque, Ricardo Trujeque (he/him), is an entrepreneur and dedicated educator with a 25+year career at the intersection of technology, communications, and education.

Ricardo has co-founded several software as a service (SaaS) companies that span digital media content production/distribution, marketing automation, language assessment, disaster resilience assessment and, currently, immersive environments for training and education. He has led ideation, planning and product management working closely with teams across operations, marketing, software development, sales, and operations bringing transformative solutions to market. He has also worked as a consultant for several private and public organizations internationally.

A renowned course author and seasoned lecturer, Ricardo has been a long-time collaborator with The University of British Columbia, currently acting as AI Program Academic Lead at UBC Extended Learning, contributing with the creation of cutting-edge educational programs and content. Since 2021, he has spearheaded the development and delivery of highly successful programs at UBC Extended Learning, focusing on AI, Data Management & Analysis, Digital Transformation, Digital Media, and Simulation. These programs have attracted over 500,000 student enrolments, underscoring their impact and popularity.
